Alabama Southern is proud to offer Kids College again this summer! Kids of all ages can enjoy summer fun on three Alabama Southern campuses.

GILBERTOWN CAMPUS

PLEASE NOTE:

•  Rock the Shot! · $30 · Ages 10 to 13 · July 15-19 · 9 am – 11 am Learn how to shoot that mysterious camera. Students will learn how to frame shots, shoot self-portraits, get profile shots, and set zoom settings. Students will also learn the techniques of editing and will create a photo book at the end of the session, highlighting their work. Limited to 10 students.

•  Stop the Bullying · $25 · Ages 8 to 15 · June 18, 20, 25, & 27 · 9 am – 11 am Students will learn how to avoid conflict, deal with strangers and bullies and protect themselves. The focus of the class will be on avoidance and basic escape techniques from common grabs and holds. Limited to 15 students.

•  Painting · $15 · Ages 9 to 13 · June 6, 13, & 20 · 3 pm – 4 pm Students will paint a canvas through instruction. The canvases will be sent home with the student as a new piece of artwork for their home. Limited to 15 students.

  Cheerleading · $35 · Ages 5 to 8 · July 8-11 · 9 am – 11 am Training will include cheers, dances, jumps, stunts, and gymnastics in a fun and safe environment. Participants learn cheerleading stances, arm & hand movements, a variety of cheers from start to finish and more. Those who pre-register will receive a free t-shirt.

 

SPORTS CAMPS (Monroeville Campus)

ALL SUMMER SPORTS CAMPS ARE LISTED UNDER THE MONROEVILLE CAMPUS CLASSES.

Lady Eagle Basketball Camp• $60 Ages 8 to 17 June 10-12 9 am – 1 pm Participants will focus on the development of fundamental skills such as shooting, passing and ball handling. A variety of games, relays, contests and competitions will also be held for the participants.

Eagle Baseball Camp $40 for 1 day or $100 for 3 days Ages 8 to 18 June 11 to 13 9 am – 1 pm This camp is designed to provide individual instruction in many of the basic fundamentals that it takes to play the game of baseball successfully. Campers should bring their own glove, cap, cleats and running shoes.

Eagle Basketball Camp $60 Ages 8 to 17 June 24-26 9 am – 1 pm Participants will focus on the development of fundamental skills such as shooting, passing and ball handling. A variety of games, relays, contests and competitions will also be held for the participants.

Cheer Camp $35 Ages 5 to 12 June 27-28 9 am – 12 pm Training will include cheers, dances, jumps, stunts, and gymnastics in a fun and safe environment. Participants learn cheerleading stances, arm & hand movements, a variety of cheers from start to finish, and more. Those who pre-register will receive a free t-shirt.

Tennis Camp $40 July 16-17 Ages 8 to 12 9 am – 11 am Ages 13 to 17 1 pm-3 pm These camps are designed to provide individual instruction in many of the basic fundamentals that it takes to play the game of tennis successfully. A variety of games, relays, contests, and competitions will also be held for the participants. Participants should bring their own racket and wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. Limited to 25 students per class.

Gymnastics Camp $60 July 23-25 Ages vary

      Beginners Class Ages 5 to 10 10 am – 12 pm This class will focus on strength and flexibility to those children who do not have much experience in gymnastics. Skills taught will include rolls, cartwheels, back bends, splits, etc. Limited to 15 students.

      • Advanced Class Pre-requisite of back walkover skill 1 pm – 3 pm Students in the advanced class of gymnastics will learn higher levels of gymnastics skills. Skills taught will include walk overs, back hand springs, back tucks, aerials, tumbling passes, etc. Limited to 15 students.

MONROEVILLE CAMPUS CLASSES

Library Camp $10 Ages 9 to 13 June 13 9 am – 1 pm “Beneath the Surface – Shipwrecked!” will offer students the opportunity to discover various facts about shipwrecks. They will also learn about literature through a shipwreck scavenger hunt. Limited to 10 students.

Digital Scrapbooking $15 Ages 8 to 12 June 14 8 am – 12 pm Participants will learn how to make a digital scrapbook, using their own photos. Photos should be provided on a CD or jump drive the day of the class. After the class, participants will be provided with logon information to share their personal scrapbook as well as the information if they would like to purchase their own copy. Limited to 15 students.

Manners for Little Ladies $15 Ages 7 to 12 June 17 9 am – 11 am Participants will receive a basic introduction to manners. A variety of examples of daily manners will be discussed and practiced among the participants. Participants will also be given handouts to be posted in their room for future reminders. Limited to 16 students.

Paper Making $15 Ages 7 to 12 June 21 9 am – 12 pm This workshop is a hands-on experience that demonstrates the significant role that paper has in our everyday life while allowing the student to make their own paper. Students will learn about papermaking, play games related to the paper process, and showcase their new paper making skill. Limited to 25 students.

Spa Day $20 Ages 6 to 12 June 24 8 am – 1 pm Come enjoy a day of pampering by our Cosmetology students. Participants will receive a hairstyle, manicure and pedicure. Participants will be transported by an ASCC van to our Thomasville campus to enjoy this experience. Limited to 25 students.

LEGO® Building Projects $109 Grades K-8 July 8-11

      Junior Vehicle Engineering™ Grades K-3 9 am – 12 pm Students will creatively build and modify different vehicles including everyday vehicles, concept cars, construction machines and more using our unique LEGO® kits. NOTE: Students do not get to bring home any of the Lego projects they create. Limited to 16 students.

      Collision Cars™ Grades 4-8 1 pm – 4 pm Students will use our unique LEGO® kits to build a variety of cars that they will battle. This class challenges students to incorporate the traits of an Engineer in the classroom setting. NOTE: Students do not get to bring home any of the Lego projects they create. Limited to 22 students.

Painting $15 July 15 Ages 5 to 7 9 am – 11 am Ages 8 to 12 1pm – 3pm Students will paint a canvas through instruction. The canvases will be sent home with the student as a new piece of artwork for their home. Limited to 15 students.

Tell Your Story $25 Ages 9-14 July 17-19 9 am – 11 am Take your idea from vision to reality with this 3-day workshop. Participants will learn about what makes a story work and how to make it even better. You will take your story home at the end of the workshop with a list of places you can send it to be considered for publication. Limited to 15 students.

Jewelry Making $15 Ages 8 to 12 July 22 9 am – 11 am Students will learn to make fashionable jewelry that they can take home and wear. They will be able to show off their creation and have the opportunity to say “I made this.” Limited to 15 students.

Create Your Own Comic $10 Ages 6-9 July 23 9 am – 11 am Come learn how to create your own story into a comic strip. Participants will learn what makes a comic work from beginning to end and how to tell a story with pictures in 1-5 frames. All materials will be provided. Limited to 12 students.

THOMASVILLE CAMPUS CLASSES

• Bike Safety, Cycling & Underground Railroad • $10 • Ages 9 & up • June 6 & 7 • 9 am – 11 am On Thursday, we will discover the Clarke County Underground Railroad Connection and Cycling. You will also learn bike safety and the benefits of biking. On Friday, we ask you to bring your bike to Grove Hill to bike an Adventure Cycling Association Underground Railroad Route. Limited to 25 students.

Fossil Dig & Stone Identification • $5 • Ages 5 to 10 • June 12 • 9 am – 11 am or 1 pm to 3 pm Become a paleontologist and a geologist for a day! Dig for real fossils, and take some home, too. Learn the basics of fossils and rocks identification. Limited to 15 students per session.

Doll Making $20 Ages 9 & up June 18 9 am – 12 pm Students will be able to make a free standing doll using different crafts that will be supplied to the students. Students will be observed while using a hot glue gun and needle and thread. Limited to 15 students.

Painting $15 Ages 8 to 12 June 24 9 am – 11 am Students will paint a canvas through instruction. The canvases will be sent home with the student as a new piece of artwork for their home. Limited to 15 students.

Red Cross Babysitter Training TBA (must register at www.redcross.org) To provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe and help children behave; and learn about basic child care and basic first aid.
